A blog about my adventure into the triathlon world. Being overweight most of my adult life in November 2010 I decided to start taking better care of myself. I lost over 50 lbs and starting running. I found a new passion for something I had always hating because I was jealous of people who COULD run! Follow my blog for weekly, or daily posts about my training, feelings, set-backs and more!

And it begins.....
July 1, 2012
Today marks day one of not only my new blog but my little journey towards my first triathlon.
Choosing to do any sort of activity, whether it's to run, swim, play hockey or just go for a bike ride is not an easy decision for everyone. Some people, like me, have to come over obstacles or personal anxieties just to do something that seems simple for some people.
I'm not going to bore you with my travels on how I ended up here well, not today anyways, but making the decision to want to do a triathlon did not come lightly for me.
I have been running on and off for a little over a year and it's been more off then off up until a month and a half ago. I noticed that running wasn't giving me the same joy that it had used to. I had just gone through a personal loss so I thought I needed to find something else to do. I started by going back to my old strength training routine that I had done when I started working out back in November 2010. Strength training, walking, running (no more than 3km) seemed to help.
Part of my cross training at the gym was using the stationary bike. I would average 10km on the bike and thought once the weather got nice, I could use my road bike for a better work out.
About 3 months ago, I started taking Aquasize classes at the local pool and found that I enjoyed them. I went with one of my closest friends who understood my anxieties about going to the pool (that's a blog post for another day) and got quite the workout!
About a month and a half ago, a good friend had told me he was doing laps at the pool. Another level I would have to do to reach my triathlon goal. I started going on Sunday nights when it was quiet and realized that I wished I had started swimming again MUCH sooner!
So I was running again. Biking was getting better and I had the courage to go swimming! (Yes, I said COURAGE!) I felt I needed to take another step so I joined our local Triathlon Club and joined their Facebook page. I got to read about people doing their first triathlons and learn a lot from veterans of the sport. I had the opportunity to volunteer for the Subaru Western Triathlon Series for the Victoria Triathlon and KNEW that it was something I WAS going to do one day!!
Well, that's just a little peek into what's to come.:)
